Mint XL is the biggest thing to happen to Leeds clubbing in years — and it's worth understanding *before* it opens on **25 September 2026**, because it isn't another chain venue and it isn't trying to be.
It's the new flagship from the **Mint** team — the people behind Mint Club, Mint Warehouse and Mint Festival, who have programmed electronic music in Leeds since the '90s. Mint XL takes the empty multi-room shell of the **old Pryzm** in the Merrion Centre — closed since 2024 — and rebuilds it as a **2,500-capacity** room for big-room line-ups, extended DJ sets and live shows.
## Why it matters
Leeds has always been an excellent clubbing city, but its best rooms are small and underground — Wire is a ~200-capacity basement, Mabgate Bleach is a warehouse, Belgrave is three intimate floors. There has never really been a *large-format* venue run by people who care about the music rather than a national chain. That is the gap Mint XL fills.
- **2,500 capacity, multi-room** — main-room headliners plus secondary spaces for live acts and touring DJs. - **Funktion-One Vero sound** in the main rooms — the high-spec system serious dancers travel for. - **A strict no-phones policy on the dancefloor** — photos and video banned once you're in the room, to keep the focus on the music. A deliberate, enforced choice. - **Thirty years of pedigree** — the Mint name has booked Leeds nights since the '90s. This is the team levelling up, not a newcomer guessing.
## Where it is
The **Merrion Centre**, central Leeds — the former Pryzm unit. Walkable from the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett campuses and from the Hyde Park / Woodhouse student belt, and right beside the first direct arena. No taxi needed from the standard student areas.
## What's not known yet
Opening night is confirmed for **Friday 25 September 2026** — the first weekend of the 2026/27 freshers season, which is no accident. The **opening line-up has not been announced** at the time of writing. Watch the Mint channels — `mintleeds.com` and Instagram `@mintwarehouseleeds` — for the reveal and for how opening-night tickets are sold.
## Who it's for
- Students who want a **big-room night** — proper headliners, proper sound — without leaving Leeds for Manchester or Sheffield. - Anyone priced or queued out of chain superclubs who wants the same scale run by actual music people.
## Who it's not for
- If your night is a 200-capacity basement and a record you've never heard, Wire and Mabgate Bleach are still your rooms — and that's fine. Mint XL is the big-room option, not a replacement for the underground. - Phone-glued clubbers: the no-phones floor is non-negotiable. Read that as a feature.

Editor’s note
Leeds has been one of the best clubbing cities in the country for thirty years without ever having a big-room superclub that wasn't a chain. Mint XL — 2,500 capacity, the Mint team, the old Pryzm shell rebuilt properly — is the city finally getting one on its own terms. The no-phones policy is the tell: this was built by people who care about the room.

FAQ
The questions a serious booker actually asks — not the generic directory boilerplate.
When does Mint XL open?
Opening night is Friday 25 September 2026 — timed for the start of the 2026/27 freshers season. The opening line-up had not been announced at the time of writing; watch mintleeds.com and Instagram @mintwarehouseleeds for the reveal.
Where exactly is it?
Inside the Merrion Centre in central Leeds — the unit that was Pryzm until it closed in 2024. It is walkable from the University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett campuses and from the Hyde Park / Woodhouse student area, and it sits right beside the first direct arena.
What is the no-phones policy?
Once you are on the dancefloor, photos and videos are not allowed — the venue asks you to keep your phone away to keep the room focused on the music. It is a deliberate, strictly-enforced choice, the same approach many serious electronic venues now take. Expect it; don't fight it.
Is it the old Pryzm?
Same building, completely different operation. Mint XL takes the empty multi-room Pryzm shell in the Merrion Centre and rebuilds it — new fit-out, Funktion-One Vero sound, run by the independent Mint Club / Mint Warehouse team rather than a national chain.
Is it a student venue?
It is a 2,500-capacity room programming big-room electronic line-ups and live shows for the whole city — not a students'-union night. But it opens in freshers week, it is walkable from the student areas, and a venue this size will run midweek nights alongside the headline weekends.
How do I get tickets?
Ticketing for opening night and the early programme will be announced through the Mint team's own channels — mintleeds.com and Instagram @mintwarehouseleeds. This page will be updated once the venue's ticketing is live.
